After years of anticipation, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema have officially confirmed that the long-awaited “Hello Kitty” movie will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2028.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the studio shared the news with fans, writing:
“Hello Hollywood 🎀🌴🎬 #HelloKittyMovie is coming to theaters July 21, 2028!”
According to the studio’s statement, the film will mark Hello Kitty’s Hollywood debut, promising a heartwarming and colorful adventure featuring Hello Kitty and her friends in a story designed to delight audiences of all ages.
Creative Team and Production Details
The film is directed by Leo Matsuda, known for Disney’s short Inner Workings and his story work on hits like Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph. The screenplay’s latest draft was written by Dana Fox, who also penned the upcoming Wicked film.
Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. serves as producer, having spent nearly a decade working with Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji to secure the rights. Shelby Thomas will oversee the project for FlynnPictureCo.
