Valve has officially unveiled its latest innovation — the Steam Frame, a cutting-edge wireless VR headset that will support Android games alongside the traditional Steam library.

In a recent interview with The Verge (via Game Developer), Valve shared its vision for seamless gaming across platforms. The company explained that players “shouldn’t have to think about whether a game is native to Steam or Android.” Instead, users will simply be able to download and play their titles directly from Steam.
This smooth compatibility is possible because Steam Frame uses the same Android APK files developers already build for Android-based VR systems such as Meta Quest. Valve further confirmed it is launching a developer kit program to help studios optimize games for the device. While SteamOS differs from Android, the Steam Frame’s Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chip can run Android apps natively — without the need for complex translation.
Valve engineer Jeremy Selan noted that developers familiar with creating apps for Meta Quest or Android devices “already know how to make those APKs,” meaning they can now bring their Android games to Steam Frame with minimal effort.
A Trio of New Steam Devices
Earlier today, Valve announced three major hardware products:
- The Steam Frame VR headset and controllers
- A new Steam Controller
- A next-generation Steam Machine
All three will initially launch in regions currently supported by Steam Deck distribution — including the US, Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia — as well as territories under Komodo’s coverage, such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Final pricing and launch dates are yet to be confirmed, but shipping is expected to begin in early 2026.
A Unified Steam Experience
According to Valve president Gabe Newell, these devices are part of Valve’s long-term effort to give players more ways to enjoy their Steam libraries across platforms.
“We’ve been super happy with the success of Steam Deck,” Newell said. “PC gamers have asked for even more ways to play their favorite titles, and the new Steam Frame, Steam Machine, and Steam Controller are designed to do exactly that.”
The Steam Frame is designed for full compatibility with both VR and non-VR titles, offering players the flexibility to enjoy the entire Steam ecosystem — whether at home or on the go. Its lightweight, wireless build aims to make immersive gaming more accessible and comfortable than ever before.
As the VR market continues to grow, Valve’s move to integrate Android support could help bridge the gap between mobile gaming and PC gaming, setting a new standard for cross-platform play.
